にじゆら目線でみる、その国々のおもしろい文化やユニークなモチーフを手ぬぐいのデザインにのせて。
私たちの世界旅行がはじまります。

どんな出会いが待っているでしょうか。
Over the course of a year our “Tenugui” in line with
the theme goes around the 12 countries as if traveling.
We put the intereting culture and unique motifs of
the countries on the design and our world trip starts.
“How do you travel?” What kind of encounters are waiting?
AUTUMN
世界には、生活様式や文化に伴って生まれた様々な染色技法があります。
にじゆらの注染もその一つ。
ここ日本にしかない染めは、とても貴重な財産です。
世界には注染と同じようにその土地にしかない染色法が多くある中、アディレエレコとブロックプリントに着目しました。
アディレエレコはナイジェリアの染色法で、シンプルな色合いと意味のある模様で構成された藍染の布。
ブロックプリントは、インドの染色法で、手のひらサイズほどの版をスタンプのように繰り返し捺印し染めた布。
3カ国の布は、どれも全て手作業で仕上げられています。
これから５０年１００年後も、手作業による染色法が続いていきますように、との願いを込めて、私たちが面白いと感じた染めを注染というフィルターを通して表現しています。
Unique in different parts of the world, the art of dyeing is often influenced by local lifestyle and culture.
A perfect example is Chu-sen, the traditional method originated in Japan, which is incorporated in our designs at NIJIYURA. This dyeing procedure is only native to Japan, which makes Chu-sen that much precious.
In addition, among the various dyeing techniques worldwide, we have focused our attention to Adire Eleko and block printing. Created in Nigeria, Adire Eleko is a painting process consisted of simple hues and meaningful patterns on indigo-dyed cloths. Block printing, common in India, is a method of repeatedly stamping dyed patterns with a palm-sized block onto fabrics. Chu-sen, Adire Eleko and block printing share one valuable similarity: they are all handmade.
It is our company’s intention to continue displaying the interesting dyeing and filtering techniques of Chu-sen, in the hopes that this handcrafted phenomenon may endure and flourish 50 and even 100 years from now.

日本にしかない染め技法、注染。
晒生地を何枚も重ねて防染糊をつけ、上から染料を注ぐことにより短時間で糸を染める技法です。
世界でも類をみないこの画期的な技法は、大阪で生まれ、東京・浜松などの地域へと広がりました。
その技法について、断面からみた様子を描くことで注染の原理が伝わるようなデザインにしました。
ランダムに繋がっている横のラインは、晒生地が重なったイメージです。また縦の色がついたラインは、染料が晒生地に浸透していく様子をイメージしています。
秋に使いやすい落ち着いたピンクと渋い色でまとめたカーキは、カゴの目隠しなどのインテリアやファッションアイテムとして映える１枚です。
Chu-sen, the traditional dyeing procedure, is native only to Japan. It was originated in Osaka and has now spread to areas of Tokyo and Hamamatsu.
With this method, we first overlap layers of bleached fabric, then apply a coat of preventive glue to areas where dyeing is unnecessary, and next pour in the dye so that the final product can be ready in a short period of time. To demonstrate the principles of Chu-sen, we made a cross section of one of our designs.
The randomly-connected horizontal line is an image where layers of bleached fabric had overlapped while the vertical, coloured line displays how the dye had penetrated into the bleached fabric. Calm pink and astringent khaki are perfect tones in the season of autumn, as well as suitable hues for interior furnishings such as basket covers or fashion items.

ナイジェリアのヨルバ族伝統の藍染布、アディレ・エレコ。
キャッサバという植物のでんぷん糊を使って、柄を描き防染した布は、様々な意味を込めて描かれる模様の面白さと、深い藍色の美しさを持っています。
ひとつひとつが手作業で行われるこの藍染布は、現在は職人たちが減少してしまい、ごくわずかしか生産されていない貴重な技法です。
そんなアディレ・エレコに魅力を感じ、オリジナルモチーフを考え、注染の技法で表現しました。
シックに藍染をイメージして染めたインディゴブルーと、模様を注染らしく多色にぼかしたマルチカラーは、インテリアやファッションアイテムとしても映える１枚です。
Adire fabric is dyed cloth made in Nigeria by the Yoruba people. Known as the Adire Eleko method, painters draw symbols on these cloths by using a starch paste derived from the plant, cassava, that acts as a preventive glue when the cloths are dipped in indigo dye, and thus separating patterns from background.
A completed adire fabric reveals designs filled with various meanings, and a touch of deep, indigo beauty within. Similar to block printing, Adire Eleko is entirely handmade. However, this traditional skill is becoming more precious by the days, as experienced workers in this field are limited and decreasing.
Extracting the bases of this Nigerian technique, we have come up with an original motif, and modified it with the Chu-sen method. Indigo blue that is either coloured by imaging indigo dye, or that is multi-coloured to blur the patterns into multiple colours, go well with interior furnishings and fashion items.

”like a Block Print” -India-
インドで4500年以上前から行われているブロックプリントは、デザインが彫られた版を色ごとに、ひたすら布に押していく染色法です。
全て手作業で、かすれなどによる絶妙な色合いが特徴です。
1色1ブロックずつ増えていく工程を柄としてデザインし、秋の七草と言われるお花が順に咲いていく過程を表現しています。
実際の花の色に沿ったマルチカラーと、秋らしく落ち着いた色目のラベンダーは、ファッションアイテムとしてもラッピングとしても映える１枚です。
This Indian traditional technique can date as far back as 4500 years. Local artisans meticulously hand carve patterns on woodblocks,
apply only a single, different colour to each of these blocks, and stamp designs onto fabrics. The emphasis of block printing is
that each and every step is completed by hand, and the exquisite array of hues is an extra enhancement. At our company, we have taken
a step further to the conventional one-colour-one-block method. The concept came from the process of the blooming flowers, Seven Herbs
of Autumn, where multi-colour ink, along with actual flower pigments, is used in our production. For instance, we find lavender, a feeling
of autumn, a suitable colour choice in fashion items, as well as wrapping materials.
